A statewide anti-drug campaign launched by Kerala to uproot the drug mafia and protect children and youth from narcotics.
About the Operation
Operation Thoofan: The Narco Hunt is an anti-drug campaign announced in May 2026 by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, soon after he took charge. It was shaped at a meeting of senior officials at Police Headquarters. On 2 June 2026, Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan inaugurated it at state level at Cotton Hill Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram.
The main aim of the campaign is to dismantle drug gangs that target children and youth.

To break interstate drug syndicates, the State Police Chief will coordinate with the police heads of other states.

Timeline
The Home Minister announced Operation Thoofan after a high-level meeting at Police Headquarters.
The campaign was launched statewide; the Chief Minister inaugurated it in Thiruvananthapuram.
As part of awareness efforts, Thrissur City Police publicly destroyed seized narcotics (60 kg ganja, 134 g methamphetamine, 390 g hashish oil and more).
Within a month, 3,910 cases and 4,201 arrests were reported.
The second phase (Thoofan 2.0) was launched at Vengara, Malappuram; total arrests stood at 12,627.
Operation Thoofan 2.0
The second phase focuses on strengthening community participation at the local level. It began with the inauguration of the Thoofan Janajagratha Samithi (Public Awareness Committee) at Vengara, Malappuram. Reports say the first phase reduced drug use in the state by 20–30 per cent.
